Who’s afraid of the big bad cell phone bill? A lot of people, apparently. A quarter of MinuteWatcher’s visitors on the first day signed up for the free service and started receiving semiweekly alerts about their cell phone usage.

“Three cheers for a free new service… MinuteWatcher seems like a no-brainer,” wrote engadgetmobile.com.”Hey, that’s pretty freakin’ handy!” concluded cellphones.ca. “Thank you for getting a version up for Telus so quickly,” wrote “Capital_Expert”, a Canadian blog user.

Samsung Ships First HSDPA Phone

Samsung has shipped the world’s first handset to support the HSDPA ‘Super 3G’ speed-boost technology, available only in South Korea.

In addition to allowing data to be downloaded at up to 1.8Mbps, the SCH-W200 slider phone can also pick up satellite-transmitted Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) TV programmes, displayed on its 2.12in, 240 x 320, 262,144-colour display. The handset has stereo speakers fed by a digital power amplifier and even a TV output connector, Samsung said. There’s a two-megapixel camera on board.

Samsung breaks the storage limit in mobile phones by introducing the world’s first mobile phone equipped with a 8GB hard disk drive (model: SGH-i310). With the large storage of 8GB, SGH-i310 will change the way people manage and use the mobile phone.
